Are you getting excited yet? If you are reading this you are probably busy planning the perfect senior portrait session. We hope you have reserved a spot with us and will soon join the My Story Minnesota Seniors community, but no worries if you are working with another photographer. There are a lot of us around. Regardless of who is behind the camera at your senior session, it is the goal of My Story Minnesota to help make your senior portrait experience as magical as possible.
Obviously, for your senior portrait session, you want to look like the best version of yourself right? After all, all these photos will be seen by your friends, family and peers for many years to come. We always recommend working with a professional hair and makeup artist, you will not regret it, but we also know that many people are not interested or able to hire a dedicated hair and makup person. With that in mind, here are a few tips and tricks where beauty and fashion are concerned.

ASSESSORIZE!!! We LOVE working with fun accessories and they can be a way to change the outfit without taking a lot of time. My Story Minnesota Seniors always get unlimited outfit changes, but those new outfits can take some time. Accessories are a quick way to change your look and we love getting creative with you and your accessories.
That said, the base of your look should be your outfit. Make sure you don't plan an outfit around those funky cat eye sunglasses and then have to change your entire wardrobe to get to the next picture. Plan your wardrobe and then pick some fun (and sometimes funky) accessories to change things up. If you have something really creative, let us know. We will plan our session so that at the end we can go for broke and get totally creative and crazy...but we will make sure to get those classing senior memories taken first.

Makeup reads differently on camera than it does in real life. Less is often more, and if you have an amazing idea/look, lets plan that last. Start with a classic look and put on more as we go through the shoot. It is easier to add to a look than start over mid-session.

Think about all the details: nails, hair, teeth, skin. Talk to your dentist about tooth whitening options to consider in the weeks leading up to your session. Pay attention and look after your skin and don’t pick (we do offer free blemish touch up, though) at acne. Careful about sunburn and tan lines that will show up in that perfect outfit you are planning to wear. The day before your shoot, consider pampering yourself by indulging in a manicure and, if you’re wearing open toes, spring for the pedi, too.
-
Practice your hairstyle in advance and take a few selfies to see how it photographs. Try to keep your true essence and we do not recommend changing your hairstyle in the weeks leading up to your senior session. For example, if you wear bangs on the regular, don’t pin them up on your photo shoot. If you always wear your hair down, keep it down on your session day. We want these memories to be of you.

Don’t make any major changes in the weeks leading up to your session. Tans (and sunburns) may not photograph they way you want them to, so give yourself time to "go back" if you don't like the change.
