On Sunday, Sept. 8, the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Atlanta Falcons 28-12. Minnesota’s defense was in great form, holding the highly touted Atlanta offense that featured QB Matt Ryan and WR Julio Jones scoreless through 3+ quarters under the relentless pass rush and smothering pass defense.
The game started with an eight yard sack by Anthony Barr. The first series ended in a blocked punt by Eric Wilson, which set up a 21 yard touchdown drive that ended in a Kurt Cousins pass to Adam Thielen. Harrison Smith picked up eight tackles and had two key passes defended to shorten Falcons’ drives while Xavier Rhodes smothered Falcons receiver Julio Jones, showing that he is still one of the premier corner backs in the league.
The player of the game, however, was Anthony Harris, who had five tackles, a fumble recovery and two interceptions. Most notably, his end zone interception where he was able to keep both toes in bounds to halt the best Falcons’ drive of the game to that point.
Check out Rich Moll’s photos from the game on Instagram, including is great shot of Eric Wilson just after his first quarter punt block. He would leave the game with injuries to his face left by the punter’s foot, which slipped through is face mask after Wilson blocked the punt.
