When I grow up I want to be… A professional dancer – She is well on her way to joining the ranks of Minnesota’s professional dancers.

When and where did you start dancing?

At the age of 3, at Larkin Dance Studio. I loved being able to express myself through movement, making friends, and performing on stage.

I mostly did jazz, lyrical, tap, hip hop and ballet in the early years. I loved every style, but lately over the years I have mainly trained in contemporary, with some hip hop and jazz. Today my favorite is contemporary for sure, I would consider it my best style as well!

What do you love about dance today?

Today I continue to dance because of the way it makes me feel and how I’m able to emote those feelings to the world. It’s been a major part of my entire life and it’s gotten me through many challenges as a kid and as an adult today.

What are some challenges you have overcome in your dance career?

In my dance career, I was faced with getting cut from a college dance team my sophomore year of college. That was tough because I grew a major attachment with the team after being a part of it with them for a year. I also wasn’t given any warning, so I was confused and devastated.

What is a lesson you learned from the challenge above?

I learned that this wasn’t the path that was meant for me, and everything happens for a reason. It then brought me upon a contemporary dance company that I grew very close with and loved dearly.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

Everything happens for a reason. I was told that 2 years ago and to this today I am a firm believer in it. This piece of advice is the mindset I continue to keep to push forward.
