The Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights defeated the Chanhassen Storm at Chanhassen and improve to 3-0 on the season. The Red Knights took the lead late in the fourth quarter on a 12 yard touchdown by Joe Marinaro and hang on despite late Storm push in waning moments of the game to win 14-7.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s scored first when Zach Swenson (3) caught a pass and made it to the end zone in the final seconds of the first half to put the Red Knights up 7-0.

Chanhassen drove down the field and late in the third quarter, Benilde-St. Margaret’s appeared to have the Storm stopped about 10 yards from the end zone after a missed Storm field goal. A flag came in at the end of the play, however, and the Red Knights were flagged for roughing the kicker, putting Chanhassen at the five yard line with first and goal.

The next play, Chanhassen’s Rolando Alvarez was upended as he dove into the end zone to score the Storm’s first points. Chanhassen and Benilde-St. Margaret’s were tied at the end of the third quarter.

The Red Knights would score the final points of the game when Joe Marinaro darted through a gaping hole in the line to score the final touchdown of the game.

The final score: Benilde-St. Margaret’s 14, Chanhassen 7.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s remains undefeated and will host Bloomington Jefferson on Sept. 20. Chanhassen will host Hopkins for homecoming on the 20th with a 1-2 record, trying to get back to a .500 record.
